Crystagen Research: One Indexed Study, Stated Plainly

This is the shortest page in this library, and deliberately so. Crystagen is a member of the Khavinson short-peptide family for which exactly one indexed primary study could be located — and that study reports a partial null. Padding this page to look like the others would misrepresent the state of the literature. What follows is the chemistry, the one study, and the gap. What is Crystagen?

What is Crystagen? A synthetic tripeptide of the Khavinson short-peptide programme, given as Glu-Asp-Pro (EDP). The sequence attribution deserves a caveat that most sources do not give it: it rests on a single source — the family table in Khavinson et al. (Int J Mol Sci, 2022, PMID 35887081), which lists “Crystagen (EDP)”. No PubChem record carries “Crystagen” as a listed synonym, and no primary study located writes the sequence out alongside the trade name. Every vendor page repeating “Crystagen is Glu-Asp-Pro” is, as far as this page could determine, repeating that one table.

The one study

Chervyakova, Linkova, Chalisova, Koncevaya, Trofimova and Khavinson (2014, Adv Gerontol, PMID 28976144, Russian-language with an English abstract) compared four short peptides — Vilon, Thymogen, Crystagen and one designated R-1 — for immunoprotective effects in ageing spleen. The abstract reports that Crystagen activated the B-cell arm of the immune system in that model, and, in the same sentence, that it did not affect cell-renewal processes in the ageing spleen, where Vilon acted by reducing apoptosis and R-1 by increasing proliferation and differentiation.

That is the located primary record in full. The 2022 family review additionally assigns Crystagen the designation “immunoprotector” and cites it to US Patent 8,057,810 — a patent, not a study. Only the English abstract of the 2014 paper was available for this page; the full text is Russian-language.

Evidence status — what is not established

Almost everything. There is no second study, no independent replication, no human data, no mechanism work specific to this compound, and no sequence confirmation outside a single review table. The one indexed result is mixed rather than positive, and it comes from the compound’s own developers.

A researcher considering this compound should know that they would be working essentially without a literature. That is a legitimate position to be in — plenty of useful chemistry starts there — but it should be entered knowingly rather than on the strength of a family reputation borrowed from better-studied members like Vilon and Epitalon.
